Antony Calvert was born and raised in Wakefield. He became a councillor on Wakefield MDC in 2004, and stood as the Conservative candidate in 2010 in Morley and Outwood, and in 2015 in Wakefield. He is Wakefield through and through. During the last two years Antony has campaigned consistently as the Parliamentary Spokesman on issues that really matter: the need for a Community Stadium for Wakefield Trinity, for a fair deal for market traders ripped off by this Labour council in Wakefield and to help regenerate the city by supporting a Business Improvement District.

As MP Antony will build on these achievements, securing that new Community Stadium, bringing power back to Wakefield to regenerate the city and towns of the constituency and will be supporting Theresa May to get the best Brexit deal for Britain.

Away from politics Antony owns and runs his own communications agency, and spends a great deal of time campaigning and raising money for homeless charities. He is also a big sports fan, supporting Leeds United FC, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Wakefield Trinity.

Over the last 10 years I have been involved in numerous voluntary and charity causes. These include:

  • Raising money for the Wakefield Hospice through a half marathon.
  • Working on a pro-bono capacity for homeless charities, which also included participating in several fundraising events.
  • As a local councillor and twice parliamentary candidate in the area I was also very heavily involved in community groups, both in Morley and Outwood and in Wakefield.
  • I was a governor of two schools in Wakefield for four years.
  • I helped establish many community groups whilst being a councillor. These included acting and theatre groups and an annual school sports day at Thornes Park.
  • I am very heavily involved in sport and, in particular, grassroots tennis and football. I regularly volunteer, both as a stand in coach for the kids, but also to manage the clubhouse, at my local community tennis club.

My main passion is in trying to provide a solution to the problems of homelessness in this country. Much of my time is spent volunteering with policy groups and other organisations to rid the country of the problem with rough sleepers which, in 2017, should not be present in our streets.

Sports – I follow Leeds United, Wakefield Trinity, the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and all our Brits playing on the ATP and WTO tennis circuits.

Traveling – I am very fortunate to be able to travel, though not as widely as I would like. I love seeing the world, but there is nothing better than getting out around the UK – the greatest country on Earth!
